Last weekend I popped along to my local market to take a few pics as I was really excited by its new Vintage & Crafts market – and I wasn’t disappointed, it was great!
Urmston Market has been there for 80 years – the fruit and veg family business has been there for 80 years, and lots of other people have been trading there for at least 35 years. My lovely community-minded friend Caroline (who incidentally is an amazing designer – check her out!) recently decided to try to drum up more activity at the market by working with existing and new market traders to initiate a series of events and speciality market days… The intention is that these will drive a reconnection with the community and remind people that markets can offer what chain stores and supermarkets can’t. It’s been such a success already and they are a real pleasure to visit. When I went along, the markets were buzzing and there was so much lovely stuff for sale… between taking photos I ‘somehow’ managed to end up coming home with a cushion, greeting cards, flowers and some jewellery…
Have a look for yourselves! The markets are open every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The speciality markets run 9am-4pm on selected Saturdays and feature specialist market stalls alongside all the usual stalls – the Vintage & Crafts market is already up and running, and the Artisan foods & delicatessen crafts market will launch next month!
VINTAGE & CRAFT MARKET – every last Saturday of the month
ARTISAN MARKET – every first Saturday of the month (starts May 3rd)
Also next weekend on Saturday 12th April is the URMSTON MARKET SPRING FAIR! As well as all the usual stalls, there will also be lots of amazing food, live music and kids’ activities. Get yourselves down there!
Keep up to date with all the markets, events and traders on the Urmston Market Facebook page, and if you’re interested in trading at the Market, please get in touch with either the market office on 0161 747 9847 / 07739 171211 or by emailing Caroline at caroline@dottodotdesign.info
In the meantime, check out all the goodies from last Saturday’s Vintage & Crafts Market. If you like the look of them, make sure you head down to the next one!
